how many times can a good cert and mac be used? would i be able to use it in my area and also my friend that lives atleast 7 miles away?

You won't know until you try, as you don't know how far the original node might be.

As for macs being use / certs, I can not give you an answer, maybe ambjr can come and answer that.

I would recommend just testing it out... Because the worse thing that can happen is you both get kicked offline xD (that is untill one of you turn off the other modem) but like the others have said above if you guys happen to be in the same node, then you will both just get booted offline.. If in different node, you should be fine...

When you pass out working bins you just enable the ISP to stop you that much faster. There are other ways if you are determined enough to actually learn how a cm does what it does...
