For the 5101: Assuming they changed the default LAN IP of the modem, you could try using a port scanner to find the webgui. You could also try SSH. But if I were them I would have changed the default password to both interfaces. Still worth a shot.

This is not uncommon, my network still has 1.0 / 1.1 modems running.
They don't upgrade you until you ask so if you have a 4100 that's what you pay for until a upgrade
The login name and password can be decoded from 2MB flash dump.
