yes it's not a hard job if you have the right tools, here's a pic of my hot air station
i'm desoldering ram chips to do this very mod at the time this picture was taken (in the vice in bottom right)

RE: FIXING A RAM - GBABY4201 - 20-12-2011

can i do it with a 15 watt solder gun or a 45 watt solder gun witch will work better...
though about getting one no i have a reason to get 1 lol..
wood i ahve to rewrite the chip still on no??

RE: FIXING A RAM - drewmerc - 20-12-2011

i have done it with a shitty iron and it's no fun and you will fuck it up the first few times (i did, i was forever lifting traces)
with a hot air station its very easy hold the hot air over it and just lift it off
i suggest you get a cheap clone 2in1 station (hot air and soldering iron) and you will wonder how you did any soldering before
soldering is now a pleasure, were as before it was a chore

fine point tips are not good at transferring heat for everyday use i use a 1mm chisel tip

RE: FIXING A RAM - GBABY4201 - 20-12-2011

ebay is way cheaper then them..

RE: FIXING A RAM - drewmerc - 20-12-2011

ebay £3.44 unknown brand (£5.50 if i stick with known good brand, best)
priceangels £3.75 (best)

i'm not trusting an unknown Chinese solder reel to correctly tell me the lead content (or any other toxic crap i touch)
