there is no (known) jtag port on that modem flash via serial and risk brick

you can get usb ones cheap off ebay http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trkparms=65%253A12%257C66%253A2%257C39%253A1%257C72%253A5551&rt=nc&_nkw=usb+ttl&_sticky=1&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_sop=15&_sc=1
or if you really want to build one you can get free samples from maxim-ic, i'd suggest a max233 (not a 232) to remove the need for caps

not with a max232 chip as a max232 is just a level shifter
