Sb5101 - Com1 Port Unable to connect? - jj123 - 20-09-2011

Hi,

New to this board and new to using haxorware and have a question.

How come when I use putty and do all the right settings in the video on the homepage it says Unable to connect to COM1? It seems to be stopping me from moving on and using haxorware.

If anyone could help ASAP that would be epic!

so let me understand you right, you just starting and want to flash haxorware?
as that video does not show him connecting a ttl cable between the modem and computer (if it's flashed you dont need a ttl cable to access the telnet console)

Oh so I have to buy a separate TTL cable before I can use haxorware? I run ethernet is that ok?

EDIT: Yes this is my first time wanting to use haxorware.

for a 5101 you need a cable for the initial flash personally i'd recommand a jtag cable (parallel port version if you have one)
ttl cables are good as they are usb and cheap but you need a noisey bootloader (only way to know this is connect a ttl cable and see) but ttl cables are cheap http://www.ebay.com/itm/USB-UART-TTL-6PIN-Module-Converter-buildin-in-CP2102-/250884716312?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a69e4f718
