Could this modem be bad?
#1
A friend of mine brought his modem (5101) over this evening saying it went out earlier. He gets as far as the Receive light blinking and his event log is filled with

1970-01-01 00:00:05 Critical T001.0 SYNC Timing Synchronization failure - Failed to acquire QAM/QPSK symbol timing

It's not the line because my Hax modem as well as sub modem work. The same goes for his house. Could it be that his modem has gone bad?

try flashing the modem with what is working and if it does not work then throw it away and buy a new one.

I tried reflashing my nonVol to his as well as my 2mb and I get nothing.? Throw it away? Can anyone else chime in here
Ok, I fixed it, due to some advice at SBH, I found a thread where they told 3 people to throw their modems away and the 4th guy figured it out so I tried what he suggested and I'm back up. All I did was keep uploading the NonVol and rebooting until the modem locked onto a freq. Done!

Good thing you did not throw it away.
I for one never throw away, unless it is
evident it is broken, and even then it could
be fixed.
