TG1682G firmware
Howdy,

I am trying to unbrand a comcast tg1682g. Does anyone have a firmware file for this modem? maybe one from not-comcast carrier?

I have a cmts so i can flash over config file.

Thanks for the help!

RE: TG1682G firmware
The firmware is the same for all providers, Comcast's branding is set in NVRAM. If you flash a "non-Comcast" firmware, you will find out that it is still Comcast branded.
Try BitWare VGWSDK version. It might work for this modem.
I do not know how to pack it for TFTP upgrade, so I can't help with installing it via CMTS.

There is not. However, if you are able to get shell access at all, the branding is stored in NvmDb at 0x3C.

You can use the /usr/sbin/nvm program from BitWare to modify the NVRAM. Just copy it out from BitWare & transfer it to /var/tmp/ on the modem.
Then ensure it's executable with
Code:
chmod +x /var/tmp/nvram
then run this command:

Code:
/var/tmp/nvram nvm nvm setbyte 0x3C 1

As for obtaining shell access, I can't help with that.
