Diagnostic modem??

this just means that the modem has new firmware right???
or is the modem in Diagnostic mode on a 5100??

this is what this guy said about the sb5100


"you said in your earlier message the operating lights ont the modem come on when u power it up. now u say the modem did not ship with a power supply. as the auction description the only cable this auction comes with is the power supply which i included with the modem. it is a diagnostic modem you put it in standby and reset thru the diagonostic command menu. if you dont know how to configure the modem then it is a user error not a faulty modem."


how true is this??

The seller is referring to "telnet access". Did you have telnet access when you initially received it? If so, this is a case in which the modem arrived functional PER his/her E-Bay description and something that you did to it caused the modem to be non-functional or it just "died" in your possession. This does happen when you buy used electronics, whether it be a laptop or cell phone.

ive never used telnet im not sure how to use that......

third time i've seen that today people saying "how to telnet", seriously what are you people doing? why are you not trying to understand the inner workings of a modem, all the unspoken answers lie there

using putty http://the.earth.li/~sgtatham/putty/late.../putty.exe

Open Putty. Click the 'session' section of the settings panel:

Connection type: Telnet
Host Name: 192.168.100.1
Port: 23
Close window on exit: Never

Click 'open', enter username and password and press enter.
(at this point if your modems online you get a cm> prompt if not enter the following command)
cd \cm_hal
scan_stop
cd \
(scanning should now stop)

help


and there you have it, i guess first you should learn how to use the help command

but for the record just because a modem is doing that proves nothing as that's the default action on all cable modems
only way to know if it works or not is to flash it with a known working firmware

im just trying to give it a last fort effort thats all..
i put the org like you said and still nothing...
i cant seem to get the scan command in because it keeps scanning so fast..
